Fishing and hunting licenses are another of the skip tracer's secret weapons. Almost a third of the adult male population in the U.S. either fishes or hunts, and licenses have to be renewed annually. So theoretically your chances of locating an adult male through these licenses is one in three, though in some states, like Texas and Alaska, your chances are even greater.

In most states, you can write to the state agencies below to obtain license records; include your subject's date of birth if you have it.

But simply calling the telephone numbers provided is the recommended approach; the clerk may be able to perform a name search while you wait. This may be faster and easier even than using the state's online resource if it has one.

You should be aware that some states (e.g., Alabama, New Jersey, Georgia) do not maintain a central repository of these records; others (e.g., Colorado, Pennsylvania) have decided in recent years to release this information only to the license-holder or to his close relatives.
